The Maoists torched several vehicles and killed a former cop in Sukma district of south Chhattisgarh late night on Monday. The incident took place on the National Highway No.30, which connects Sukma and Telangana. According to a police officer, the rebels stopped two state-owned buses near Penta village, hardly five kilometers from Dornapal police station. The passengers were asked to get down and both buses were torched along with two trucks, which were passing through the area. According to some local reporters, former Special Police Officer (SPO) Sodi Munna was traveling in one of the buses. The rebels identified and killed him. The Maoists also left banners near the spot of the incident condemning the recent killing of 10 Maoists by the Greyhounds in the neighboring Bijapur district last week. “We demand that there should be a judicial inquiry of the alleged encounter on March 2 and the culprits should be punished,” read one of the banners issued in the name of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).
