Eleven members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena were arrested by the Boisar police in Thane district on Wednesday on charges of vandalising a theatre screening Bhojpuri movie Ek Bihari sau pe bhari on Tuesday evening.

The MNS members had protested at Chitralaya theatre in Boisar. They included the president and vice-president of the Thane rural wing of the party.

“We have booked them under Sections 141 and 157 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the IPC and Criminal Procedure Code,” Ravindra Sengaonkar, Superintendent of Police, Thane rural, said.

Police said the action was taken on the basis of a complaint from the theatre manager. The protesters had not seen the movie but indulged in breaking glass panes and violent activities after they got miffed with the title of the movie, the police said.

Those arrested were released on bail by a local court here.
