Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally in Guwahati on May 26, when his government completes three years, and the BJP-led government in Assam its first year.

Marking a departure from last year, when Mr. Modi addressed a star-studded extravaganza in New Delhi called ‘ Ek Nayi Subah ’ (A New Dawn), he will make this anniversary part of what BJP leaders call his Mission Northeast.

The BJP has been keen on spreading its footprint in the N-E States and have become aggressive in the poll-bound Meghalaya and Tripura.

Longest bridge

In Guwahati, Mr. Modi will also open the Dhola-Sadiya bridge across the Brahmaputra in Tinsukhia district of Assam. The 9.15-km bridge, considered the country’s longest, will connect to eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

According to senior BJP office-bearers, Mr. Modi will speak about his government’s efforts to reach out to the northeastern States. The BJP heads the governments in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
