Mewat RTI Manch has launched a ‘Voter Care’ drive in Nuh and adjoining districts of the State ahead of the Assembly polls later this month to create awareness among the voters on the need to exercise their franchise and help them with any voting-related issues.

The organisation’s convener Rajuddin Meo said they held an awareness campaign at Badkali Chowk on Sunday to make voters aware of their rights. He added that more such campaigns would be carried out.

Mr. Meo said that communal harmony committees were also constituted to ensure that the atmosphere was not vitiated in Nuh villages during the election. He said the organisation would also take its drive to adjoining districts of Gurugram, Palwal and Rewari.

Mr. Meo said the campaign was first initiated during the Delhi Assembly election in 2014.

“The drive was carried out in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as well during the elections in those States. In Rajasthan, the drive was confined to Alwar and Bharatpur. Similarly, we carried out the campaign in Agra and Mathura in U.P.,” said Mr. Meo.

He added that the organisation also helped people get registered as voters and listened to their election-related grievances. “Sometimes, voters from the weaker sections of society come to us saying they are under pressure to not cast their vote or to vote for a particular candidate. In such cases, we take their complaints to the administration and ensure timely redress,” Mr. Meo added.
