A day after his expulsion from the Bahujan Samaj Party, former Minister Daddu Prasad has accused party president Mayawati of selling tickets for elections. Stating that “money cannot win elections”, Mr. Prasad, who is a founder-member of the BSP, said he paid the price for raising the issue with “Behenji” (Ms. Mayawati). He alleged that the BSP chief wanted to finish the party.
A former MLA from Manikpur (reserved) in Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Prasad claimed that several disgruntled party leaders and workers were in touch with him.
The former MLA, however, refused to disclose the names, but added that many party workers are with him.
Denying that he would join some other party, or form a new one, Mr. Prasad, a Dalit, added he would work towards the creation of a “Bahujan Samaj”.
He is not the first (former) BSP leader to have levelled such allegations against Ms. Mayawati. Similar charges were made by former MP, Akhilesh Das and Rajya Sabha MP, Jugal Kishore.
Narrating the sequence of events which led to his expulsion, Mr. Prasad said at 8.30 p.m. on January 27 he received a call from Ms. Mayawati on his mobile informing him about his duty as the BSP’s election in-charge for the Delhi Assembly elections. He accepted the directives. “However, when I told Ms. Mayawati that ticket-selling allegations were tarnishing the party’s image, she lost her cool and said you will be thrown out of the party,” Mr. Prasad told reporters here on Thursday.
