A 40-year-old man, who had raped his 14-year-old daughter in front of her two younger sisters, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences court in Odisha’s Berhampur on Wednesday.

According to public prosecutor Narayan Panda, the man had committed the act at his home at a village in Purushottampur police station area of Ganjam district on March 28, 2017. He had raped his eldest daughter in the presence of his younger daughters, who were then aged 11 and nine respectively. The man had reportedly driven away his wife and used to live with his three minor girls.

The POCSO court also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the accused. “The court also ordered the government to provide ₹7 lakh for the rehabilitation of the victim, who is still a minor,” said Mr. Panda.

There were eight witnesses in this case, including the two younger sisters of the victim.
