The Railways has cancelled its Majestic Rajasthan tourist train pitched as ‘Karwa Chauth Special’, following tepid demand. The train, which was to cover destinations such as Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer attracted bookings from only two couples, a railway official said.
The train was to depart from Delhi Safdarjung Station on October 14, returning on October 18. It was termed as ‘Karwa Chauth Special’ as the festival falls on October 17.
The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation had pitched it as a “gift to one’s better half for an experience of a lifetime”. The journey would have taken the couples to tourist attractions in Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer fort, Patwon Ki Haveli, Gadisagar Lake, Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant Thada, Amber fort and City Palace, besides the Taj Mahal in Agra. The tour package was priced at over ₹1.02 lakh per couple for the first AC category and ₹90,090 per couple for the second AC category.
