: A suicide attempt was made by Amaresh Dash, a junior clerk, on the premises of Khemundi College at Digapahandi in Ganjam district of Odisha on Monday.

According to police sources, he is alleged to have consumed pesticide following an altercation between him and the principal of the college. Amaresh was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in a serious condition. The reason behind the suicide attempt is yet to be ascertained.

Sources say, this suicide attempt may be due to some financial irregularities in the college, which had come to fore during a recent audit.

It is also alleged that Amaresh was a lowly paid staff of this government-aided college.

Some suspect that Amaresh was in financial burden and stress because of his low pay, which had pressed him to take this drastic decision on the college campus.
