Maoist leader Deen Bandhu was arrested on Sunday from this Punjab town in a joint operation by the Punjab and the Jharkhand Police, an official said.

The arrest of Bandhu, who had been hiding here under the alias of Suraj Munda since December last year, came on intelligence inputs, the official said.

A major activist of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, Bandhu, 28, was wanted in scores of murders, and kidnappings in Jharkhand, said a senior police official.

He joined the Maoist movement in 2010 and is facing charges of murdering four people in his native village.

Bandhu is believed to be aide of outfit’s dreaded top gun Kundan Pahan, who was shot dead in a forest in Khunti district in Jharkhand in July last year. A local court handed him to Jharkhand Police on a five-day police remand. – IANS
