A couple of days after announcing that yoga will be made compulsory in all educational institutions in Haryana, Health Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said he will meet yoga guru Baba Ramdev at the Maharshi Patanjali Yogpeeth Asharam in Hardwar on Thursday and hold discussions on promoting yoga and Ayurveda in the State.

On the need to approach Baba Ramdev, Mr. Vij said “today yoga is recognised all over the world and Baba Ramdev has made an invaluable contribution”

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promoted yoga at the United Nations in order to get it global recognition. As a result, the U.N. has decided to celebrate June 21 as World Yoga Day and 177 countries have co-sponsored the event.

As for promoting Ayurveda, Mr. Vij said it was India’s traditional medical science which can even control the severest of disease. “Every possible effort will be made to encourage Ayush in the State. The State government will work with full devotion to provide people with affordable and sustainable treatment,” he added.
