Former BJP MLA from Badsar in Hamirpur was acquitted in a rape case here on Saturday when the prosecution failed to prove the charges against him.

He was acquitted of all charges by the Special Judge (Forests) R.K. Sharma.

A three-time MLA, Baldev Sharma was facing rape charges from a woman for the past one year.

The woman had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Mr. Sharma who was then a sitting MLA and she had approached him for her husband’s transfer.

She had claimed that the incident happened on March 25, 2012 at the MLA’s residence .

She also claimed that she had approached the then DGP and the Chief Minister office but no heed was given to her complaint. The case was registered almost after two years when the woman had appeared in a police station and the incident was widely reported in the local media.
