One militant was killed on Wednesday in an ongoing anti-militancy operation by security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian.

“One unidentified terrorist has been killed. The operation is going on,” a police spokesman said.

The police said a group of militants, hiding in Shopian’s Check Cholan, were encircled during a pre-dawn operation by the security forces. The Army, the police and the CRPF are carrying out the operation jointly.

The forces suspect two to three militants might be hiding in the area.

The affiliation and identification of the slain militant could not be immediately ascertained.
