Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Thursday said that she did not dream of becoming the President of India but continued to aspire to be elected as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the Prime Minister of the country in the future.

Her statement came in response to a jibe by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav who had, alleging tacit understanding between the BSP and the BJP for the 2022 Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, said that everyone was waiting to know if the saffron party would elect her as the President of the country as a reward.

She said that she had not spent her entire life in comfort and luxury but had dedicated it to walking on the path set by B. R. Ambedkar and her mentor Kanshi Ram.

“This work, of helping the crushed and downtrodden to stand on their own feet, I cannot do by becoming the President of the country but only by becoming the CM of UP and the PM of the country,” she said.
