Delhi women gang-raped in Goa

They posed as officers of the anti-narcotic cell of the police and waylaid a taxi in which the two women were travelling.

Five men who allegedly assualted and gang-raped two Delhi-based women on Monday night have been arrested by Goa police.

The accused posed as officers of the anti-narcotic cell of the police and >allegedly raped the women at a flat at Anjuna beach village in North Goa , the police said on Wednesday. They frisked the women’s bags and then took them to the flat.

>All the five accused were arrested on Wednesday at the flat, in the presence of victims, after the taxi driver complained to the police.They were attached to a controversial nightclub at Calangute village, which was recently demolished by local people for allegedly being a prostitution den.

The women, aged 22 and 30, were holidaying in Goa, and had hired a taxi to go to Anjuna beach when the accused stopped them midway at Arpora village posing as anti-narcotic cell officers. “The accused posed as policemen and waylaid a taxi in which the two women were travelling to Anjuna on Monday night,” Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar told PTI .

The accused have been identified as Travor Joseph, Jeevan Pawar, Kamlesh Chowdhary, Ajay Kumar Khushwa and Nadim Sayyed.
