: D. Tumbanath Subudhi, a fugitive criminal from Berhampur, was tracked down by the police in Sundargarh district, where he was living under the garb of a sadhu named Tejomaya Swarup.

After adopting the identity of a sadhu, he is said to have been involved in mass movements against cow slaughter, which had become a threat to the communal amity, and the law and order situation.

On charges of defying restrictions imposed on him under section 144 of the IPC, he was arrested in Sundargarh district on June 4.

Although he could arrange bail in this case, the police could ascertain his past identity. Therefore, he was again arrested on the basis of non-bailable warrants pending against him in Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, police sources said.

According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarthak Sarangi, Tumbanath was produced before Baliguda court in Kandhamal district on Monday.

On May 22, 2011 Tumbanath had made a lethal attack on Mamata Pati, the woman police officer of Barakhama police outpost near Baliguda in Kandhamal district.

As per police records, he was involved in criminal activity in the name of Maoists. He was also involved in several cases of arson, robbery and dacoity in Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
