Crime Branch to investigate kidney sale

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - BERHAMPUR:

The Odisha Government has ordered a Crime Branch inquiry into the alleged kidney sale by a poor youth from Kandhamal district.

The decision followed submission of a report by Kandhamal district administration on the incident. Arati Ahuja, the Secretary of Health and Family Welfare department, had written to the Crime Branch on Tuesday on the issue.

The mystery over the issue had deepened after it came to light that the kidney transplant was conducted in a Sri Lanka hospital.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) which was investigating two cases of kidney sale in Cuttack last year had unearthed the recent case. The kidney seller has been identified as Kanhu Behera, son of a labourer in Phulbani.
