Chinese national Wu Tiandong, 32, who was arrested under the stringent Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016, was released on bail on Friday from Patna’s Beur Central Jail.

Mr. Wu, who works for a private mobile company, was arrested on June 17 in an inebriated state. A liquor bottle was recovered from his guest house in the Gardanibagh police station area. The Patna High Court granted him bail on a bond of ₹10,000 with two sureties; the papers reached the Beur Central Jail on Friday.

Mr. Wu is the first foreign national to be arrested under Bihar’s stringent liquor law.

Officials said he was served noodles and boiled vegetables in the prison.
