A recent survey of parents found that 76 per cent thought children were most vulnerable to dengue, but 92 per cent of the population was unaware that mosquitoes caused the disease. The survey by Nielsen and Godrej was conducted across 16 Indian cities to gauge the public’s perception on dengue, at a time the vector-borne disease has spread. A total of 70 per cent of parents said they thought their child was more likely to get dengue in the classroom.
Interestingly, 82 per cent of the respondents knew that dengue was life-threatening but 92 per cent did not know how it was contracted. The business head for India and SAARC at Godrej Consumer Products, Sunil Kataria, said: “Our research reveals that children in schools are the most susceptible to the disease.”
