n a direct attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party in the aftermath of Dadri killing, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday alleged the ‘chalu’ (cunning) party was bent on disturbing atmosphere in the state with an eye on polls and suggested countering them “intelligently”.
“They bring a new topic every six month. First, it was Make in India, then it was Swachh Bharat and now its Digital India,” he said.
“While this is happening on one hand, different issues are being raised in U.P. every six month. The objective is only one — who forms the government in days to come.”
Referring to Badaun incident in which two cousins were allegedly raped and found hanging from a tree, the Chief Minister said, “I had no inkling as to how far the matter would have its echo. We had to give explanation everywhere. Big organisations raised the issue before the United Nations, but at last reality came out...”
The CBI had found no evidence of murder or sexual assault in its probe into the death of two teenage cousins, whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in the district in May last year.
The Chief Minister said that his party was taking the state on the path of progress.
“Some persons want to distract the attention of the people from the efforts of Samajwadis, who are taking the state on the path of progress and prosperity,” he said while addressing a function here.
Pointing out some of the projects of the Samajwadi Party government, Mr Yadav said his government was constructing metro railway and Lucknow-Agra Expressway, and has also distributed ‘Samajwadi’ pension and laptops among students.
After enumerating the achievements, the Chief Minister said, “BJP and other communal forces feel that they should distract the attention of the people from these schemes and poison their minds.”
The Chief Minister said, “Who is disturbing the atmosphere in U.P.? I have already said that they are ‘chalu’ (cunning) persons and we have to counter them intelligently.”
Mr Yadav was speaking at a prize distribution function here to honour high school and intermediate students, who got highest marks in Urdu.
Azam hits back at opponents
Facing flak for taking the Dadri issue to the United Nations, senior U.P. Minister Mohd Azam Khan on Wednesday hit back at his political opponents asking where were the ‘thekedaars’ of the society when Badaun case and those related to child labour were raised before the UN.
“Barely clenching fist and showing a punch doesn’t give the power...reality cannot be described by playing with words ...something concrete has to be done,” Mr Khan said at the programme here.
“When the hanging of two cousin sisters in Badaun was taken before the United Nations and the Chief Minister had to reply to a letter from its Secretary General, where were these so called ‘thekedaars’ of the society,” he said.
Mr Khan posed, “When several issues of labour movements and child labour were raised before the UN and Kailash Satyarthi got Nobel prize, where were these people?”
Taking strong exception to Azam Khan’s letter, BJP has demanded his dismissal and said he should be tried for treachery for taking the Dadri issue to the UN and tarnishing the image of the country at the global level.
Controversial AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has also said Azam Khan has committed a blunder by taking up India’s internal issue with the UN.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Mr Khan also attacked RSS accusing it of working to turn secular and pluralistic India into a majoritarian theocratic nation as ‘Hindu Rashtra’
“Fascist forces are attempting to create a divide in the society by launching a hate campaign against Muslims and Dadri incident is an example of this,” Mr Khan had said. - PTI
