Following an instant agitation, the Haryana police have registered a case against a Congress MLA of the State, Ram Niwas Ghorela and his security guards, who allegedly assaulted a family on the Jind-Hisar road for not granting way to the VIP entourage.

According to reports, the incident occurred near the Hansi railway crossing in Jind district, when the MLA representing Barwala constituency was returning from Karnal on Monday. There was a long queue of vehicles which the legislator's cavalcade wanted to overtake, till they were not granted way by a car that occupied by a couple.

Ostensibly, the husband objected to highhanded behaviour and some remarks by the security guards. At this, led by the MLA, the security guards assaulted the man leading to an instant protest by the by-standers. After initial hesitation, the local police succumbed to public protest and registered the case.

The opposition Indian National Lok Dal, while seeking the arrest of the MLA has alleged that high handed behaviour by legislators and leaders of the ruling Congress party was the order of the day.

On the other hand, Mr Ghorela while denying the charges said that in fact his driver was thrashed by two men and three women, who were travelling in the car. He claimed that they also tore the uniform of the security guard and refuted allegations that he or anybody in the entourage was under influence of liquor.
