BJP to press for Assembly dissolution

October 04, 2015 01:24 am | Updated 01:24 am IST - SHIMLA:

The Bhartiya Janata Party has demanded the immediate resignation of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh after the CBI raided his premises in the disproportionate assets case.

BJP party general secretary Randhir Sharma, MLA, said on Saturday that the Chief Minister, if allowed to continue in office, might influence the investigation.

He was surprised at the memorandum given by the Congress Ministers and MLAs to the President, supporting the Chief Minister. “Has the Congress showed this unprecedented unity to support a person facing corruption charges,” he asked.

Mr. Sharma said the BJP Legislature Party meeting was scheduled for October 5. “We would approach the Governor and demand that the Assembly be dissolved and fresh elections be called,” Mr. Sharma added.

He said the Chief Minister is suffering because of his own deeds and not because of Mr. Jaitley or the Union Government. The Congress legislators instead of parading before the central leadership should expose the corrupt misdemeanor of the Chief Minister, he suggested.
