Amid the ongoing controversy over attempts by the right-wing Hindu Mahasabha to construct temples of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse, Uttar Pradesh Minister Azam Khan on Wednesday sarcastically suggested that no one should object to such temples. He even said the Centre could bestow on Godse the Bharat Ratna.

“Temples of Godse should be built in every district in the country... Only they should not come up by demolishing any mosque. If there is a demand that his temple should come up at Taj Mahal, then it should be allowed there,” Mr. Khan said at an event in Kanpur.

The Hindu Mahasabha recently announced plans to construct temples to “honour” Godse at various places in the State.
