Personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) unearthed a secret Maoist dump of arms and ammunition in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Sunday.
According to police sources, acting on a tip off regarding presence of Maoists, BSF personnel had started a search operation in Pitakonda forest under Kalimela police station. The items seized from the Maoist dump included three Single Barrel Muzzle Loaded (SBML) guns, two spare barrels of guns, one hand grenade, one magazine of AK-47 rifle, 18 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, five detonators, other things of Maoist use like their propaganda materials, clothes, medicines etc.
In another development, 37 persons from Ralegada village of cut off area of Balimela reservoir under Chitrakonda police station in Malkangiri district were rounded up by personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG). They were suspected to be Maoist elements. They were located inside the forest, while the SOG personnel were continuing combing operation on Saturday basing on intelligence reports regarding a Maoist camp operating in the region. These 37 persons were brought to Chitrakonda police station for interrogation and investigation regarding their suspected Maoist links. According to sources, their interrogation at Chitrakonda police station was still on till evening.
