Another shake-up in bureaucracy

June 11, 2014 01:54 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:55 pm IST - Lucknow:

In another major shake-up of the State’s bureaucracy in four days, the Uttar Pradesh government transferred 36 IAS officers, including district magistrates, on Tuesday after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav conducted a review of the law-and-order situation.

Anil Kumar Gupta, who was shifted from the post of Principal Secretary (Home) on June 2 after the State government came under fire over the Badaun gang-rape and murder of two teenage cousins, has got the less-important post of Member, UP Revenue Board.

A total of 66 IAS officers were shifted last Saturday.

Addressing senior administrative and police officers at the review meeting, Mr. Yadav said that district officials in Badaun should have sprung into action immediately after the gang rape and murder.

Strict measures should be taken to control crime, he said.
