Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh has been booked for allegedly assaulting an MCD engineer and preventing him from discharging his duty when the latter and his team had gone to demolish an illegal construction in West Delhi.

An FIR was registered after the police received a complaint from SDMC junior engineer Azhar Mustafa in this connection.

The SDMC, on it part, is mulling instituting an inquiry into the matter. “In his complaint, it has been alleged that he and his team reached Krishna Park to demolish an illegal construction when the locals objected to it and then called local MLA Jarnail Singh to the spot,” said a police officer.

“The junior engineer has accused Singh and several of his associates of obstructing him and his team from carrying out the demolition and thrashing him,” the officer said. According to him, when Singh was shown the relevant documents pertaining to the demolition, those were snatched away from him and torn.

“We have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 186 (obstructing public servant from discharging duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty) at the Tilak Nagar Police station against Singh. Further investigations are on,” the officer added.
