Two persons, including a policeman, were killed and four policemen were injured in a clash between encroachers and the police at Bhavnandpur in Bihar's Begusarai district on Saturday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vivekanand said some villagers, belonging to a community, had forcibly occupied the land owned by Ram Padarath Singh, building more than 15 huts. Despite several reminders, the encroachers refused to comply with the order to vacate the plot. They turned violent against police personnel who had gone to the village to remove the huts in the morning.
The mob overpowered a Special Auxiliary Police jawan Umashankar and beat him to death. A villager was also killed in the clash, he said.
Four policemen — SAP jawan Indradeo Mandal, police constables Anjali Yadav, Kumud Paswan and Ashok Rajak, who were injured in the clash, — were rushed to a government hospital here for treatment, he said.
