The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress of “conniving with the Maoists” and not adequately opposing Left wing extremists.
“Supporters of the Trinamool and Mamata Banerjee are in a way conniving with the Maoists. The Trinamool leadership does not speak out against the Maoists in the manner it should,” senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Chandan Mitra told journalists after the two-day chintan baithak organised by the State unit of the party here.
The Left wing extremist threat was a “cruel curse” on this country and we should oppose anyone who supported the extremists, said BJP State president Rahul Sinha.
Poll strategy discussed
The BJP would oppose the CPI(M) and the Trinamool in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Over the past two days, the BJP's strategy for the 2011 elections was discussed, Mr. Mitra said. The BJP would be projected as an “alternative” to the CPI(M) and the Trinamool.
The head of the BJP women's wing, Smriti Irani, was present.
