Security measures for all MLAs in Manipur have been stepped up following the assassination attempt on independent MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing on April 15.
There is no breakthrough in police investigation into the ambush.
The security for Salam Joy, from whose security guards service guns had been snatched, is being reviewed.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who is also in charge of the Home Department, has asked all the Ministers and MLAs to inform him in advance if they are leaving for their constituencies or going anywhere else so that additional security could be provided to them.
Director-General of Police Yumnam Joykumar has asked police and paramilitary force officials to ensure that all elected representatives are provided with armed security guards.
Some militant groups have been attacking MLAs and preventing some of them from attending public functions. Besides, some politicians have been asked not to contest the coming Assembly election.
Mr. Singh has also asked the Ministers not to attend public functions which are not very important as security arrangements entailed big expenses.
Mr. Singh said that the outfit behind the assassination attempt on the independent MLA was not identified yet.
A tribal outfit has claimed that the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), which has been holding peace talks with the Central government after signing a ceasefire, had carried out the ambush. The NSCN(IM) has not reacted to the charge.
