With the recovery of more bodies in the landslide-hit Malin village in Pune’s Ambegaon taluk, the death toll mounted to 105 on Sunday. The National Disaster Rescue Force personnel faced an uphill task in retrieving bodies mired in the muddy field of debris five days after the disaster.
According to officials and villagers, a total of 160 persons are estimated to have been trapped under the debris.
Meanwhile, the local administration pointed to at least 15 other villages and hamlets in the area susceptible to the danger of an earth slip. “We will conduct a survey all over Maharashtra to determine how many such villages exist and accordingly take a decision based on that,” said Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam.
