Hundreds of CPI(M) cadre on Monday staged a demonstration here asking the CPI(Maoist) to stop killing of innocent people and CPI(M) workers.
Holding placards against Maoist attacks on CPI(M) cadre and members of the CITU, the agitators blamed the ultras for trying to break communist unity in the country.
The protest rally was held here after Maoist ultras killed at least one CPI(M) cadre and kidnapped two others within a fortnight in Sundargarh district.
“They (Maoists) are working at the behest of the capitalists instead of the poor people,” alleged party’s State secretary Janardan Pati while asking the cadre to unitedly fight to foil Maoist designs.
Terming it as “murderous politics”, Mr. Pati said that the CPI(Maoists) had lost its ideology for working against the poor mines workers in Sundargarh district.
When Maoist ultras allegedly killed one CPI(M) leader Rabi Munda on March 17, 2009, they too eliminated another village headman in Sundergarh district barely 10 days after the first incident, Mr. Pati pointed out adding that they also killed Thomas Munda, a CITU leader last week.
The red rebels had allegedly attacked the CITU office at Kalta, Roxy and Toda areas under Bonai sub-division of Sundergarh district.
“Surprisingly, they (Maoists) killed Thomas Munda after a delegation of CPI(M) met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking protection”, Mr. Pati said adding that Mr. Munda was abducted from Kalta mines area by Maoists on January 25.
Maoists targetting CPI(M) cadre was not a secret, pointed out party’s Bhubaneswar unit secretary Suresh Panigrahi claiming that posters recovered from near Munda’s body clearly said that the red rebels were opposed to Marxist followers.
Admitting that the cadre killing in Orissa was a fallout of a series of incidents at Lalgarh in West Bengal, CPI(M) leaders described Sundargarh as the “hotbed” for rebel activities with abduction, killing and attack on CITU leaders.
Though Maoists had killed one CPI(M) leader at Malkangiri in 2006, Mr. Pati recalled adding that they had launched a continuous attack on party cadre in Sudargarh recently.
“As the CPI(M) is the only party which politically oppose Maoists ideology, its cadre was being targeted”, Mr. Pati said.
CITU leaders working among the mines workers in Kalta, Roxy and Bonai area were opposing Maoist ultras who extort money from the poor people, said CPI(M) leader Dusmant K. Das.
