Expelled Congress legislator Atanasio Monserratte resigned from the Goa Legislative Assembly on Friday to join the United Goans Party, which he had formed recently to contest the upcoming polls.
“I have submitted my resignation to the Speaker. I will be joining the United Goans party and will contest from Panaji constituency,” he told reporters on Friday morning.
The legislator, representing St Cruz constituency, was expelled by the Congress in 2015 for anti-party activities.
His wife Jeniffer is MLA from Taleigao constituency bordering Panaji.
Mr. Monserratte said he would be contesting the polls on the development plank. —PTI
