Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad’s eldest daughter Misa Bharti is likely to replace her mother Rabri Devi as the party’s nominee for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll while noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani will be the other candidate.

The party had earlier confirmed Ms. Devi as the nominee for the seat in the House of Elders, but later decided that she would continue as the leader of the RJD legislature party in the Vidhan Parishad.

According to sources, the politically ambitious Ms. Bharti got her father to change his mind. The sources also told The Hindu that Ms. Bharti had earlier put pressure on her family to accommodate her in the Nitish Kumar-led Cabinet along with her brothers Tej Pratap and Tejaswi, but the matter was dropped after a marathon family meeting. This time, however, she was firm.
