Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung chaired two high-level meetings on Wednesday regarding celebrations on ‘International Yoga Day’, which will be held in Central Delhi next week.

The first set of meetings, a statement from Raj Niwas said, was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and the Vice Chancellors of Central and State universities. The varsities were urged by the L-G to celebrate ‘International Yoga Day’ by organising Yoga meets and raising awareness about the benefits of Yoga for a healthy mind and body.

According to Secretary (Education), 13,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) students are being trained in Yoga camps and 18 summer coaching camps are being organised to promote Yoga. The Education Department of the Delhi government is also planning a special event in Chatrasal Stadium.

Several Yoga meets

The second meeting was attended by the Delhi Police Commissioner, Joint Secretary (Ministry of Ayush), Chairperson (New Delhi Municipal Corporation), Commissioner (North DMC), Commissioner (South DMC), Commissioner (East DMC) and other representatives of the DDA and Delhi government departments.

Special session

On June 19, an estimated 27,000 people will participate in a special session on Yoga by Baba Ramdev, which shall take place at Rajpath. Around 100 RWAs are also organising separate yoga sessions in their own localities to celebrate the day.

The Delhi Police is organising separate Yoga meets at 12 places where 5,000 personnel are likely to participate. The Delhi Secretariat too is planning to hold a Yoga meet for its officers and staff at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

The L-G urged the Police Commissioner and others to organise Yoga meets for their staff and family and help spread the message of health benefits of Yoga.
