Intending to get illegal pecuniary benefits by registering a false case, a police inspector in Cuttack has landed in deep trouble.
Former inspector-in-charge of the Nemala police station Jyotiranjan Gouda has been placed under suspension after it was revealed that he registered a fake accident case and helped the so-called victims to procure a forged injury report in order to enable them to get insurance benefits.
Basing on an inquiry report submitted by the Central range IGP, the State DGP K. B. Singh on Wednesday suspended Gouda for his dubious role and criminal intent.
The DGP has also ordered Cuttack rural SP to submit draft charges and memo of evidence against the tainted police inspector immediately.
According to a release issued by the police headquarters here, one Sanatan Pradhan of Nayagarh had informed the Nemal police station in February this year that a mini-truck, in which his son Santosh was working as a helper, met with an accident within the limits of the police station.
His son and two other occupants of the vehicle sustained grievous injuries, the FIR said.
Registering a case, Gouda entrusted the case to sub-inspector Jayshree Ojha for investigation.
Suspecting the injury reports prepared by Salepur PHC doctor R. K. Nayak in the case, Mr. Ojha referred the injured persons to SCB Medical College and Hospital for a re-examination of their injuries.
When the Cuttack hospital gave its opinion stating that the referred patients do not bear any injuries, the role of the police inspector, the doctor, a local advocate Saroj Kumar Sahoo and the vehicle owner Purnananda Sahoo came under the shadow of suspicion and the matter was handed over to the IGP to investigate.
Meanwhile, registering another case of criminal conspiracy, forgery and criminal intent against the doctor, the advocate and the vehicle owner, Salepur SDPO has entrusted the case to Human Rights Protection Cell inspector Arati Mishra to conduct a thorough investigation into it.
