Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda pledged to donate his eyes to enable the blind to see the light of the day.

Hooda took the vow while unveiling “Nehru Drishti Yojna” and “Indira Bal Swasthya Yojna” schemes at the Republic Day function at Jhajjar, an official spokesman said.

Hailing the Chief Minister’s decision, former Haryana Assembly Speaker Raghbir Singh Kadiyan said his gesture would inspire others to donate their eyes.

The spokesman said the “Nehru Drishti Yojna” is aimed at controlling blindness, adding by dialling phone number 102, one can call doctors to pledge donating eyes.

To make it convenient for family members or relatives of eye donors, 20 such collection centres are being established in the state, the Chief Minister said at the function.

An eye bank is already functional at PGIMS, Rohtak, while two new such banks will be set up at Bhiwani and Panchkula.

The “Indira Bal Swasthya Yojana” is aimed at providing preventive and curative health care to all children up to 18 years.

It will be implemented in four phases and will cover more than 40 lakh children, the Chief Minister said.

In the first phase, 14 lakh primary school students will be covered, he said.
