Govt. treasury looted in Balaghat

November 07, 2009 07:22 pm | Updated 07:22 pm IST - Bhopal:

Unidentified persons looted around Rs.7 lakh from the government treasury in the Naxal-affected Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

“The robbers probably knew the security guards and intoxicated them by giving them some sweets,” said Balaghat range IG B. R. Muniraju.

The officer however ruled out any Naxal hand in the incident calling it a case of “professional robbery”.

“We have rounded up some people for investigation, but anything conclusive can be said only after we are done with it,” he said.

The state unit of the BJP is currently holding a working committee meeting in Balaghat.
