ED questions Bihar Congress leader

April 14, 2011 10:24 pm | Updated 10:24 pm IST - Mumbai:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday questioned Amlendu Pandey, Congress leader from Bihar, for more than nine hours here in connection with his alleged association with Pune-based businessman Hasan Ali Khan.

The ED alleged that Mr. Pandey aided Hasan Ali to get a passport based on forged documents from the Patna passport office. He is alleged to have later travelled with Hasan Ali and Kolkata-based businessman Kashinath Tapuriah to Singapore via Kathmandu to avoid immigration checks.

The ED is trying to put the pieces of information together that have come forth during the interrogation of Mr. Tapuriah and Hasan Ali. The ED had said that Mr. Tapuriah told the agency that Hasan Ali had an account with UBS, Singapore, which was later transferred to Zurich.

Mr. Pandey was summoned by the agency two days ago.
