Crew member falls from copter, dies

A crew member of a Pawan Hans helicopter died after he fell off while the door opened in mid air shortly after it took off from Namsai in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday morning.

The body of Dhananjoy Roy was recovered from Lathao, 15 km from Namasai.

District Deputy Commissioner R.K. Sharma told The Hindu that the 20-seater MI172 was on a routine passenger trip to Tezu, the district headquarters, around 11 a.m.

There were five passengers on board, besides the pilot, the co-pilot and three crew members.

“A case has been registered. Post-mortem and other formalities are being done. The Airport Controller and the Director-General of Civil Aviation have also been informed. An investigation is on,” Mr. Sharma said.
