All 11 elected unopposed for Rajya Sabha from UP

All the 11 candidates who had filed their nominations for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh were declared elected unopposed on Thursday. Elections were to be held on June 17 for 11 seats and since only 11 candidates had submitted their papers they were declared elected. Thursday was the last date for withdrawal of names.

Those who have been elected to the Upper House of Parliament are Satish Chandra Mishra, Ambeth Rajan, Jugal Kishore, Narendra Kashyap, S.P.S. Baghel, Mohammad Salim Ansari and Rajpal Saini ( Bahujan Samaj Party ); Rasheed Masood and Mohan Singh ( Samajwadi Party ); Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi ( Bharatiya Janata Party )and, Satish Kumar Sharma ( Indian National Congress ).

The term of 11 sitting Rajya Sabha members from the State ends on July 4, 2010. They are Satish Chandra Mishra, Arun Shourie, Jaya Bachchan, Kamal Akhtar, Narendra Kumar Yadav, Bhagwati Singh, Ambeth Rajan, Ram Narain Sahu, Amir Alam Khan, Brij Bhushan Tiwari and Shri Ram Pal.
