April 01, 2010 09:58 am | Updated 10:50 am IST - Patna

A dawn-to-dusk Bihar bandh called by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to protest the State government’s move to open a unit of Aligarh Muslim University in Kishanganj began on Thursday morning amid tight security.

The bandh has also been called to protest police lathicharge on ABVP activists near the secretariat police station on Monday last. The bandh is peaceful so far. Movement of trains and vehicular traffic remained unaffected and shops were open in the State capital, officials said.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have extended their support to the call, Patna ABVP General Secretary Amritanshu said.
