Eight people died and 11 were injured after a luxury bus collided into a diesel tanker at Kude village, around 10 km from Manor, on Wednesday. The bus was travelling from Pune to Ahmedabad when the accident occurred around 1.40 am.
The BPCL diesel tanker was travelling towards Gujarat when the accident occurred. According to a police official, the bus was behind the tanker. The bus collided with the tanker, which was carrying oil. The collision caused the tanker to catch fire which spread to the bus. A car collided with the luxury bus from behind and caught fire as well.
Eight people including bus passengers and those travelling in the car were charred to death. The 11 injured have been admitted to Manor Rural hospital and have suffered medium to minor injuries. One of the injured has been transferred to Thane.
Following the accident, the highway from Shirsad (Virar) to Manor was blocked. Traffic was diverted from Wada-Bhiwandi road. Bodies were recovered after the bus was detached from the burning tanker. Traffic restarted at a slow pace around 5.15 am.
