At least 471 protesters taking out anti-government processions have been arrested in the last two days in the Valley, even as 32 were injured on Thursday when security forces tried to break up marches in Shopian and Anantnag.

Several local imams and Hurriyat leaders were seen addressing gatherings calling for “discipline and avoiding confrontation with the security forces.”

However, over 100 were injured on Wednesday in Shopian when the security forces tried to stop a procession. Several vehicles were also damaged in the clash. A police spokesman said 349 “hooligans and miscreants” were arrested. “Besides, 122 have been detained under prohibitory provisions of law,” he said.Hurriyat factions, led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, alleged that more than 1,000 protesters have been rounded up in night-long clampdowns in Srinagar and south Kashmir.

The Valley remained tense for the 27th day on Thursday with curfew and restrictions continuing in parts of Srinagar and south Kashmir.
