Four persons were injured after a metal scaffolding erected for the under-construction bridge across the Zuari river collapsed on Wednesday.

The eight-lane Zuari bridge connecting South Goa and North Goa districts is one of the major ongoing infrastructure projects in Goa.

The accident occurred when the metal scaffolding supporting a concrete slab collapsed, injuring the onsite workers, the police said.

“Four workers have sustained minor injuries and have been hospitalized. A probe has been initiated,” a spokesperson of South Goa police said.

Dilip Buildcon Ltd, the infrastructure company which is constructing the bridge said in a statement that "prima facie this scaffolding failure is most likely due to soil displacement from the (nearby) hillock".

"Thankfully there has not been casualties. Dilip Buildcon prides itself on its impeccable safety and quality records," the statement said further.
