2G: Mamata for discussion

December 01, 2010 03:00 am | Updated October 17, 2016 11:10 am IST - KOLKATA:

Stating that her party favours discussion on the 2G Spectrum issue in Parliament, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her party is with the Centre.

“We are with the government. We want discussions (just as) the government. Even the Prime Minister has said so. But the formation (the form) of the discussions is the debating point.”

“We are not in favour of corruption. The truth must come out,” she asserted.

“But if anyone wants to do politics (over the matter) we cannot support it,” she added, referring to the demand of the Opposition for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scam.

She said the party “is grateful” to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for her initiative to “sort out” the deadlock in Parliament. “Let it be sorted out… Sometimes all political parties have to sit together and discuss a formula [to break the logjam],” she said.

Ms. Banerjee, whithout naming Niira Radia, pointed out that the services of the corporate lobbyist had been engaged by the Left Front government in various “developmental projects” in the State, including the one at Singur. “What are they doing in Bengal? There are so many scams here… There are so many areas where the Left Front government handed over work to this particular lady. I am not going to disclose her name…” she said, in an obvious reference to Ms. Radia.
