A 20-year-old girl from a village here, suffering from cancer for past two years, has sought Uttar Pradesh Governor’s permission for euthanasia.

Jyoti, hailing from Sheshpur Athgava village, has lost one of her legs which had to be amputated because of her disease.

She has moved an application through the district magistrate addressed to the governor seeking permission for euthanasia.

District magistrate, Adarsh Singh said euthanasia was against the law and the administration is doing everything possible to help Jyoti.

“A request has also been made to the government to help the girl financially,” he said.

Jyoti’s family who had been bearing the expenses of her treatment with the help of some people are no longer in a position to meet the high cost.

They met Mr. Singh and handed him the application who assured them of help from the district authorities.
