PANAJI: All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar on Friday said that Congress is not desperate to forge an alliance with Goa Forward (GF) just to win elections as it wants to win the trust of Goan people first.

Replying to questions at his press conference on whether the Congress, in its bid to defeat the BJP, was not keen on forging an alliance with GF, Mr. Chodankar said that GF is also fighting against the communal BJP, “but for the Congress, the cleansing process is on. It is also equally important to win back the trust of the people. Our apprehension is that in the bid to win elections by mindless alliances, we may end up getting only a few leaders, not necessarily the people [we want]. We may fail to win the trust of the people,” Mr. Chodankar said.

Going to polls with an alliance government, Congress had lost the 2012 Assembly elections, winning just nine seats out of 40.
