The Navy is set to acquire an indigenous anti-submarine warship, Kamrota — the first of a series of four corvettes that will beef up the capacity of the force to counter underwater threats.

The ship built by Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders Ltd. as part of the Project-28, will be handed over to the Navy on Saturday.

The Kamrota has been built with 90 per cent indigenous content, which includes special grade high-tensile steel produced by the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL). The ship’s hull will be mounted with sensors to aid submarine detection.
