The family of Salman Mohiuddin, who was arrested at the airport here on Friday for allegedly planning to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State terror group, has denied any wrongdoing on his part.
“Thinking is not breach of law. There is a lot of difference between thinking and action,” Ahmed Moinuddin, father of Salman, said, when asked about the electronic equipment reportedly seized at the time of the arrest and the social media content allegedly posted by his son which the police said linked him to IS sympathisers.
The Cyberabad police here allege that Salman was planning to join the IS along with his girlfriend, Ayesha.
He had also tried to influence a former classmate of his in an engineering college at Vikarabad working in Dubai to join him in his plan to go to Turkey and work for the IS eventually.
The friend had secured him the visa to Dubai.
Mr. Moinuddin, a retired engineer living at Asifnagar here, said his son was innocent and never had a brush with law anytime in the past.
“My son was travelling to Dubai on a visit visa to find a job and not as being put out by the police. He could not get a family visa in the U.S. So he returned to the country in October and was trying to find employment in Dubai.
He got the visa for Rs. 50,000,” he said.
