Militants attacked a police station at Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday and killed a policeman on duty.

“Militants in the early hours fired indiscriminately at the Shopian police station. The attack was repulsed by the alert jawans. In this incident, policeman constable Saqib Mir sustained injuries and later succumbed,” said a police official.

Constable Mir was buried at his ancestral Zawoora village in Shopian.

It was the fourth killing of a policeman in the past 10 days and comes a week ahead of the elections to the urban local bodies in south Kashmir.
