Lalit Modi visa row: BJP role is out, says CPI(M)

Updated - April 03, 2016 04:15 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Terming the scandal revolving around former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi a “cosy nexus of crony capitalism’’ which exposes the involvement of the BJP leadership with cricket, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday injected into the discourse the less-talked-about fact about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s involvement in cricket politics.

In an editorial in the latest issue of People’s Democracy , the CPI(M) pointed out : “The shielding of Sushma Swaraj by the Prime Minister and the BJP, exposes the BJP leaders’ role in the IPL-cricket business. Narendra Modi himself was president of the Cricket Association of Gujarat when Lalit Modi was the IPL Commissioner.”

Apart from the conflict of interest in Ms. Swaraj’s husband and daughter being the legal representatives of the cricket administrator, the CPI(M) also questioned the Modi government’s handling of the Lalit Modi case.
